I'd say it's good for anything which doesn't need to scale or have a
huge range. LFOs and percussion oscillators come to mind. The latter is
what Tom says he uses them for.
The Gnome uses funky old NPN and PNP transistors like those in the 27XX
modules. I might make a Gnome for my son one of these days!
