It's PAYING the bucks for NTE parts that sucks, and making sense of
decidedly user-unfriendly naming codes. They know that if they used the
industry standard names for their parts that it would be perfectly easy
for people to buy the parts from other sources for a fraction of the
price!
There was an actual non-Rat-Shack electronics store in Needham, Ma
called "You-Do-It" (or as David Hillel Wilson called, "You-Blew-It").
They did offer many parts which are seldom found in stores, but all of
their chips were NTE, a whole wall of them. They also loved not putting
prices on hardly anything. This got crazy at the cashier, where a chip
that I knew usually cost less than $0.50 would ring as being $5.00...
VERY steep.$4.00 op-amps, OTAs, CMOS, $10.00 for an 8-bit ADC? This is
when I broke down and decided to do mail-order.
