[sdiy] If God Smote Your VCO's

Hi List,

Last weekend I put together a power supply and this weekend rigged up a
distribution board for it, and now I have a self-powered rack of synthesizer
modules. I'm getting close to having a 'real' synth. However, yet to go in
the rack are expo VCO's and EG's. I have seven 1U wide X 5U tall modules
completed:

Ray Wilson Quad Log/Lin VCA
'Enhanced' Ray Wilson Quad LFO
CGS Wave Multiplier/Grinder
Blacet DSC2000
Dual Four Input Mixer/Ring Modulator/Peak Trough (Ken's Analogic design)
45 Connector Multiple
Schmitz Discrete 2040 Filter w/three input mixer

I thought - what the heck - my LFO's have three ranges, the highest range on
each goes into audio, though they're not voltage controlled. The DSC2000
has a linear VCO and a noise source, and the 2040 filter can self
oscillate - so there are my sound sources.

For timbre modification I have the fantabulous CGS Wave Multiplier, the vera
vera nice-a 2040 filter, plus the ring modulator and VCA's that can be
modulated as well..

So, I decided to see what I could do with my Eric-the-Half-a-Bee synth, with
nothing else used. No PT2399 delay circuit crutch, no EG's, no expo VCO's,
no kehboard. I recorded some patches and mixed them together and put them
on my site (if anyone is interested in hearing what a VCO-less, EG-less
synth would sound like). It's not much of a melody, but thanks to the WM
and 2040 filter, and ring modulator, coming up with different timbres was
pretty fun.

It's here (at the top of the page under 27 September, 2004).
