Partially yes. In my case the update rate is fast enough that any "fast"
moving output is not needed and the system is used purely for smoothing
the output rate (~500Hz) ripple.

This requires one extra op-amp for the buffer which is exactly what I am
trying to avoid.
So I will rephrase my original question: If I am using such cap -> res ->
cap smoothing system, are there any disadvantages to moving the resistor
and second capacitor to the target circuit board?
