Hi Rapman,

Are EML the ElectroComp people? I've gotten to play with some of their
earlier synths, sounded quite nice apart from the weird voltages. On
those the pots sounded like a crackly mess, almost unusable.

I don't know about rose oil, but I'd assume that petroleum jelly is a
bit resistive itself, and not likely to be evenly so. Some kind of
light, evaporating solvent such as a contact cleaner might be
preferable.

Being thorough, I'd either replace them all or manually clean them.
Most slide pots are held together by a few tabs where the metal casing
wraps around the bottom phenolic or fiberglass board. I'd make a wiring
diagram, remove all sliders, then open and clean them each with water
or isopropyl - depending upon what is contaminating them. Just be
careful not to scrub off the carbon trace which forms the resistance
element!

The EML 400/500 series are not very often found. Treat it right and you
will be jamming for years! Good luck!
