Forgo the samples.  Why not a hybrid system?  Use the fan as the noise source!  A second PSU fan
would be even better for some true stereo effects.  Now you have all kinds of opportunities.  You
could then sample the fan back into the computer and apply envelopes and such in your softy synth
of choice or mic/amp the audio straight into your handbuilt EG/VCA/LFO/etc. breadboard thingy. 
Many other combinations are possible now as your mind allows.
