isn't it just cheaper and easier to get sample of 24-bit sigma delta instrumentation A/D, say, from Analog Devices? They sometimes have 6 digit accuracy.
No hacking, everything simply laid out in datasheet. And you don't feel sorry for poor DVM being killed.
