[sdiy] VC pedal

LOL. I made one of those (VC pedals) as well... from an old

MOOG 1120 Control Pedal (now what do you think THAT would be
worth, stock, today... well you know what I say, "I bought it, I'll
bloody well boot it" :^)

I was trying to get a very fast response for the high-hat "splash"
sound, as well as foot closed. So my optical gate is closed when the pedal
is up, and the cell is suddenly illuminated at the full down. I do get some
"analog" range but that is not my intent.

I used an LM334 to drive the LED constant current from a 9V battery. It can
suck the cell down to less than 7V before it suddenly dies.

I have some very strong springs inside the case... so there is some feel. I can
see the Peasant's design is far beyond mine in authentic 'feel' department.

yo' mssr. Peasant: Did you do anything to model the inertia of a real hi-hat.
The
cymbal mass gets quite an acceleration when you slap it down with the foot. Are
you
trying for 'real feel' or synth controller ? I did not bother with that.

yo' mssr Tim: For your 'maracas' (which I also experimented with) I would look
into the Analog Devices ADXL-202E accelerometer. It can do what you imagine
far better than an opto circuit will... you should be able to get samples. I
built it
'deadbug' on a small circuit board. I was trying for "electric sneakers" to
play drums
with my feet... but I did not have great success. I did try the maracas
thing... but I am out
of extra appendages. Of course there is an old saying "Maybe I should stick a
broom up
my ... and sweep the floor at the same time ???"

now THAT might 'shake' things up a bit...
