[sdiy] 808 help

Hello,

I've got a TR-808 with a sketchy tune control on the Low Tom. It
works, but when it get's to the lower range, the pitch can go high,
especially with a little downward pressure on the resistor. The
pitch can sometimes drift on it's own as well. I'm new to
DIY/troubleshooting/repairing electronics, but to me this sounds like
I just need to replace the resistor. Does this sound correct?

As far as getting the replacement resistor, is this something I'm
likely to find on Digikey or Mouser? If so, how do I wade through
the immense catalog to find exactly what I need? I've looked at the
808 schematics, it shows this variable resistor (11) at 500 ohms but
I'm not sure how to determine the other characteristics of the
resistor.

Also, are the plastic knob covers easily transferable so once I get
the replacement resistor I can maintain the aesthetic of the 808?

Thanks!

Wholetone
