Thus proving once again that there's an exception to every rule. It's
called the real world, gang. Budding engineers take note.
Every book on "how to solder" I ever read was correct in theory but wrong
in actual practice. You weren't encouraged to think for yourself but to
slavishly follow a set of rules that allowed for nothing.
Having a mentor is the best way to go (in any field of endeavor) if you're
lucky enough to find one. I didn't have any for many years and I was very
frustrated as a result.
