For high volume production work with small, close pads, I work at 750 - 775; I know I'll do
between 5,000 and 10,000 joints in a day. Theortically there are probably problems with the dwell
time being too short, but in practice the joint is of high enough quality to not have any
problems.
I work at around 700 or just above when I am being careful working on building my synth stuff.
I do wish I had a tip with a lot more thermal mass than the average modern tip when workinf on
things like tinning coax braid. The dwell time has to be so long that it starts to affect the
insulation. And I don't don't do it often enough to spring for a tin pot.
