Usually it is not a 'patent' issue... its a second source issue. Many people
(like yourself) will not design in a part of questionable availability. For
MIL spec work this is usually fatal. These companies cross licence their
products to achieve second source.

sometimes... this cross licence is the result of discovery in court... that
they
have engaged in raiding each other's cookie jars simultaneously.  They could
settle by agreeing to give the other company their design (stolen already) in

return for accepting the other's (stolen already) design.    :^P

isn't life strange ???
