Not necessarily. I know some people were possessive about their custom
patches and loaded the factory bank before they sent a unit in for repair.
(If they could, of course.) Also, many people bought the DX7 for that
notorious epiano sound, on the basis that it made a good substitute for
that heavy Rhodes they were used to carrying everywhere.
And let's not forget that musical creativity and sound design aren't always
related. Someone who writes good songs may not have much of a clue about
synth programming, and many of the top programmers never made much of an
impression as creative musicians.
