[sdiy] The extreme low cost of audio gear... my little comment somehow got out of hand :P

I'd also like to add my comment to nN AAt e e's rant.
Sure, you make some good points.
BUT:
Those are the guys who *buy* stuff. Let's face it: All the little local
music shops you have right around the corner can only survive because
folks like the guy you've described fall in love with a $1500 guitar (or
whatever gear). I have one of those shops around. I visit it every other
week to buy a set of strings, a calbe or whatever. Nothing expensive. I
always have a nice chat and a coffee with the owner, but I don't buy a
guitar or an amp once a year. Eeconomically I'm a bad customer for him.
He can *only* run his business because he sells expensive gear to peole
who use it for 3 month, put it atttic and buy something else. Hey- it's
just mass produced stuff after all.
After all, the stuff does not simply dissapear. Sooner or later it'll
pop up at ebay or somewhere else, and that's the chance for musicans
without rich parents or a good job to get a adequate instrument for a
fair price.
Nils
PS: I personally would beat the living s**t out of anyone who dares to
ruin the finish of my guitars. If it happends in an accident, or during
a jamsession - that's one thing, but if it happens because someone is
stupid I'll go berzerk.
