[sdiy] Thoughts about a few things...Paia 8700

I am, or have been, in the process of restoring my old Paia 8700
keyboard...the only thing I have left from my old paia synth that I
foolishly gave away many years ago...
The 8700 computer has been tormenting me in that it is not much of a
computer...anymore that is. I keep thinking I should make my own PC board
for the cpu, maybe with a 6502, instead of the 6503, more peripherals, more
memory, etc, but then I realize that by todays standard, the 6502 was not
much of a micro processor, but if I were to change to say something like an
AVR, or better yet, an ARM (LPC2292 anybody?), that would sort of destroy
the charm that the old 8700 had. In fact, even doing a new PC board with a
6502 on it would probably destroy the charm that the 8700 had...
Speaking of the LPC2292, I am considering getting myself a bunch of these
(because the smallest batch I can find is 60 pieces at a time). They come
in a thin quad 144 pin flat pack (i.e. surface mount). I still have not
decided if I will go this route yet. There are a lot of cool new ARM
processors coming out. The LPC2292 is attractive because it has an
external bus. (well, to me it is attractive)...
