Short answer: No.
Slightly longer answer: I would think that the response time of the LDR
would be the limiting factor. Don’t really know how well they would respond
to a 30 - 40KHz signal. ON THE OTHER HAND, the slow response would
definitely tend to 'filter' the ultrasonic carrier frequency.
Sounds pretty interesting all in all.
