This will be hard to describe via text....

Years ago, a singer was auditioning for a role in a Gilbert and Sullivan 
show where the audition piece was the song Harry has alluded to here 
that Fred Astaire made famous ("You say toma(y)to and I say toma(h)to, 
you say pota(y)to and I say pota(h)to..." etc.). The singer had NO CLUE 
and sang the song, straight faced, without the differences in 
pronunciation, as "You say toma(y)to and I say toma(y)to, you say 
pota(y)to and I say pota(y)to...". You can carry this out for the whole 
song to get an idea.

Well, you can imagine the snickering in the theater.
