LM3900 to CD40XX Connection?Hi Romeo,

I've currently got the circuit on my breadboard - I used the 4016 simply because one was there, and my final version will have a 4016 stage available to it, but I can see why you'd want to avoid wasting an entire 4016 on that one stage.

I just got back from the annual Stites battle-the-swarm-of-Asian-beetles campout (damn transplanted species, anyway), so I won't be able to get to it tonight, but I'll check to see if the circuit's still working and then try an emitter-follower on it to see if it'll work with that. I have a feeling it will - I imagine Don used the 4016 section on there because it was available - left over from all that programmer stuff.

Cheerio,
Scott

I'm taking a shot at cloning the Random Voltage Source from the Buchla 208/Music Easel. You can see the schematic for it at this URL:

In the original, one LM3900 stage is used for the clock input, which is then pumped into a CD4016 switch, which looks to me like it's being used as a buffer. its output drives the clock input of the CD4015.

I'm trying to avoid using a CD4016, since I have no need for any other CMOS switches in the circuit. Could I simply use a transistor buffer (Emitter Follower) instead?

  Romeo
