Yes, the circuit and manual appeared as if designed by someone from art
school, and it looks pretty eclectic. The manual appears to grok the
psychology of kit-building. I guess for synthDIY, if you don't really have
your own personal pick-and-place machine, then you can very well place
parts at any angle relative to the board orientation you want.
An underlying premise of the circuit design is interesting also. A certain
part of the design is tolerant of random wiring. Wow, my own designs
definitely do not allow for that kind of freedom. So: what would a circuit
that does look like?
The so-called "santrodes" remind me of touch switches. I built some of
those in the 1970's, as a way to provide unique aesthetics to modular
front panels, and somewhat to save on the costs and unreliability of
mechanical toggle switches. But I had real trouble making sure these would
_always_ work when touched! I suppose with more "free" gain in today's
opamps, it's not as hard now...
