[sdiy] Intro and basic IC compatibility question

Hi guys,
I've been following the threads here for a while, most is way over my head
but I find it quite interesting nonetheless. I'm really enjoying my first
DIY project, the p9700s modular kit from Paia. I can easily spend hours
working on it and I find even the dreaded flying wires to be enjoyable in
their own way. I'll probably feel differently once the whole thing is
complete but for now I'm having great fun.
The only glitch to date is a number of missing parts though to their credit
the Paia guys have been very quick to send replacements once I report the
omissions. I am currently missing a Hex Inverter IC (74HC14) from the
Midi-CV module that hasn't shown up yet. My VCO will be completed tonight,
and I need the Midi-CV module to power and test it. I want to buy the
missing IC from a local shop but I'm worried about going that route given my
status as total SDIY noob. My electronics store has the 'NTE equivalent'
which the salesboy thinks will work. I really don't want to use the wrong
part and ruin all my hard work just because I'm impatient.

My question: is the NTE74C14 compatible with the 74HC14 that Paia should
have sent me?

Thanks very much! Have a great weekend.

Tim
