My first IC I ever bought was a 741. I tried to build an amplifier with
it from a single supply and drive an 8 ohm loudspeaker... mmm, and so
the learning curve begins.

And the odd thing, some would say sad, is that after 25 years I still
have that 741. And it still works. :-)
