[sdiy] optocouplers/Vactrols

Hi all,

I was wondering what optocouplers (LED/LDR combo) list members prefer.
I've certainly used the PerkinElmer (formerly EG&G/Vactec) Vactrols and
have made some DIY models as well. I'm waiting to see if I can get
some samples of the Silonex (Audiohm) couplers. I remember Hamamatsu
(sp?) was mentioned on the list some time ago, but all I can find on
their site is info on their LDRs (which of course would still be useful
for DIY couplers). I also know that I can get some of the Clairex LDRs
from either Digi-Key or Mouser, I forget which.

I recall the response time being a potential issue with the Hamamatsu
parts (as fast as OTAs/VCAs), whereas the Audiohm couplers seem to be
in the same range as many of the Vactrol parts, maybe a bit slower.
(Rise times for Audiohm parts seem to be in the 3-6 ms range).

Thanks,
-PRH
