Doh! Use a keyboard, because it's already quantized.

You mean use the pitch CV from another (silent) synth, with some portamento to make it bend. That is hit-me-over-the-head obvious! I feel so... stupid, cheap, and dirty ("stupid" being the new addition to that list :-)

The pitch bend rate will be preset by the portamento, which can be a Good Thing, and of course the pitch bend amount will always be perfect.

  if you're using an existing synth, how about hooking it up in place of the pitch bender? same idea.. korg even had standard sticks on their synths..
