Non-British might want to use the more common word "spoon" instead of
"ladle". It's helpful to collect some solder in and drag it from
joint to joint. Effective time saving method.
And if you ever find you don't have a fine enough tip on an
inconvenient moment, you can make one in two minutes.
Take a length of 0,5 mm copper wire (stripped electro installment
wire f.i.), make a tight spiral around your soldering element and
have a short length sticking out past the tip. Sharpen the end and
presto!
HOT tip: It's a much easier job when you let the iron cool down first.
