Nicolai,
This is *very* sound advice - kill it before it grows =0). Any chip that
obviously has given up the ghost gets *immediate* burial, with the proper
services of course.
In fact, I even go a step further. I keep my parts segregated between
breadboard and 'finished product'. Semiconductors used on the breadboard
get a nice little dot of some red fingernail polish that my wife contributed
(I swear it came from the wife, that is). This is because God only knows
what I've done to a chip inadvertantly and not realized it while screwing
around with the BB. These parts get recycled for future breadboard
experiments. If a circuit doesn't work on the breadboard, I exhaust all
possibilites first, then go for the 'red dot'. So far, all the 'red dots'
have been fine, but you never know......
Oh, and BTW, go out and get another CA3080 and try Rene's 'Late MS-20'
filter with your spanking new VCO4069. It's a wicked cool filter with some
mean resonance, and Rene's got a couple of tricks for getting high pass and
this very neat band pass response from it as well. It's easy, and a great
'starter' filter.
Cheers,
Scott
