Perhaps, but since I'm not so sure yet what *should* happen, it's hard
for me to judge the measurements.

Good point. I'm not sure I checked both ways, although I think I did.
Now that I know it was the chip's fault (I'm so happy it wasn't mine
:-P) I can safely go to sleep. Some other time I'll check exactly what
is wrong with the IC, and perhaps I can speculate on what I may have
done to kill (parts of) it...
