I'll try turning the diode around, but I hope it's not that :-)
The little black ring goes in the direction of the "arrow", right?

I'll also try using another one.
I'll double- and triple-check those connections, but I'm pretty sure 
they're alright (although my experience is that the errors lurk where 
you expect them the least, such as in plugging in the power as you 
mentioned :-)

I checked all the inverters at the top row, and they are all fine.
