Whoa, Ian, I hadn't noticed that!

And electronic goldmine has an adjustable triple output power supply kit for $24.95 - +/-1VDC to 15VDC @ 400 mA and 1 to 21 VDC @ 1 amp.  May be not be a bad deal for a basic bench supply considering the cost of a transformer, PCB, pots, etc.

Scott's post reminded me that I hadn't checked some of the surplus places 
in a while.  Marvin Jones has a good deal on a 500VA variac.  Only 
$40  (less than half price).  Everybody should have one of these.
