[sdiy] MOTU 7s

Hi!

New on the list, I have a few questions which I hope are somewhat
relevant, although not directly about synthesizers at least about
analog music gear. If I'm on the wrong list please guide me to the
proper place.

First of all, I've for a long time been looking for a
MIDI-controllable mixer, and one that is small, has HPF and LPF in
series (that is, not the usual shelving eq) on all channels, has 2
aux-sends / ch, is rackmountable, and does NOT feature motorized
faders. Actually, since faders take up space I would really prefer a
mixer without faders, since it has to be MIDI controlled anyway.

The only mixer I've found that comes close enough to those specs is
the MOTU 7s. It does however, only have shelving eq. Now I wonder, has
anybody on this list opened up any MOTU 7s? How is the eq built? Is
every channel a single IC or would it be possible to modify the eq
section into a HPF/LPF?

BTW, does the MOTU 7s s**k as bad as people say when it comes to
sound, and is every parameter MIDI controllable or is it only the
VCA's? What alternatives are there? The mixer does not have to be
analog but it has to be available cheaply second-hand.
