> Radio Shack - oooooh, they really toast my nuggets. Used to be you they had a
fairly decent selection of components, they had Forrest Mims books, and they
were *everywhere* (in the States, at least). Now they're a limp version of all
they used to be. No - scratch that - they're nothing they used to be.

What I'm afraid of is that the are going to get even worse. The salesperson
assured me they are not getting rid of parts, it's just a customer appreciation
sale. However, general Radio Shack only deeply discounts items right before they
stop carrying them.

Radio Shack had already drive out all the electronics stores in town. The last
one closed about two years ago. I suspect the owner was ready to retire and was
willing to give up on the few customers he got when Radio Shack (if the
salesperson happened to know he was there) referred people.

Electronic parts shops for repair businesses have long ago fallen by the way
side. A friend got a part time job at an appliance store's repair shop. He got
yelled at for spending an hour troubleshooting a repair down to a transistor.
The owner wanted him to make repairs by selling the customer new boards to
replace the board with failure. !! Don't replace the fuse damaged by the
lightening strike (a common occurrence around here) sell them a new power supply
board!

. . . and people wonder why nothing can be repaired any more.
