Radio Shack - oooooh, they really toast my nuggets. Used to be you they had a fairly decent selection of components, they had Forrest Mims books, and they were *everywhere* (in the States, at least). Now they're a limp version of all they used to be. No - scratch that - they're nothing they used to be.
Now they're the guy that stands on the other side of the counter trying to sell you a cell phone or satellite TV while you look (in vain) for that part/tool they used to stock in their now-dwindling supply of anything useful. The absolute worst MBA driven pile of horseshit there ever was -an assortment of crappy consumer electronics at crappy prices and nothing more. They need to rename the chain "Crappy Stuff Shack" just to get rid of any illusions of being a useful asset to anyone who isn't interested in shite. All this IMHO of course.
Even more depressing - when you think of it, they're a microcosmic example of the direction the whole components industry is going.
Cheers, but not cheerful.
Scott
Whose only real local electronics store is called Lloyd's where they not only have electronic components, but also birds and cats, and they *still* beat Radio Shack 10 ways from Sunday.

Speaking of Bottom Ten ICs, - Okay, how about bottom ten sources of ICs - Radio
Shack has all their parts in the metal bin cabinets on sale for half price.
