National appears to have produced a 23-stage PRBS chip (the MM5437N) as well as the generally maligned 17-stage MM5837N. This page has some info: http://www.vego.nl/8/08/03/08_08_03.htm Maybe this is the reason some "MM5837" noise generators are free of the annoying "heartbeat"... Regards, Mike
