In case you ingest some lead, eating garlic may help remove it from
your system. It's been suggested that this is why the ancient Romans
felt that garlic gave them strength -- because it was actually curing
them of mild lead poisoning, which makes you feel weak.

This is unproven conjecture, but why not hedge your bets by eating a
nice, garlicky meal after a soldering session? (I should note that I
*like* garlic. Italian food, anyone? :-)
