If you use Windows 2000 and it happens to you (that is, only BMP formats
appear in the file type dropdown list), do this:

Open PaintBrush, then using the file open dialog, select as file type "all
files", then open a jpg or gif, either one and save it.  Close PaintBrush.
 When you next open it, it will from then on include JPG and GIF in the
file format list.  Sheesh, I do abjectly and profoundly hate, no I LOATHE
Windows.  Misthaufen.
