Any semiconductor that has essentially fixed voltage
drop, with varying current can be used in this type of
filter.  I have done Ladder filters with ALL kinds of
diodes, including LEDs !!!

therefore you might make this filter with Germanium or
Shottky diodes, which have a much lower forward drop
(.2 - .4V) than silicon (.7V).  This might work.

Five volts, remains to be seen...
