Well I think that it might be difficult to obtain a ten octave tracking then !
I suggest that you visit the brand new page at RadioJunkBox dedicated to the
Steiner VCF, the guy run spice simulations and gives a comprehensive
analysis of the various parts of the circuit. The address is :

The problem is that it's all in Japanese !!! Nevertheless if you feed the page 
to an online translator (such as wordlingo, http://www.worldlingo.com/
products_services/worldlingo_translator.html ) although you obtain a 
laughtable translation yet you get the flavour of what is said.
