If you're aiming for very high resolutions, aligning that label accurately
might be a real problem.  :)

I think some DVD transports read both sides of the optical disc at the same
time. You could create a label for each side, and use the lasers built into
the system for the light sources. (I'm not too familiar with DVD
technology, to be honest.)
