I wonder if it was Diana Deutsch that wrote an article for Audio
magazine back in the mid to late 80s. The article was about similar
auditory illusions. One example had two test tones "ping pong" between
the left/right channels. When listening (via headphones, I believe), a
third "phantom" tone became very audible. It was really wild.
I thought about trying to incorporate some things mentioned in the
article in my music, but I never did. I guess my brain cells were
over-taxed with programming my DX7. ;-)
