Security - Attach them pins upwards to the top of your walls 
and fences to discourage intruders.  Failed intruders could 
be recognised by their DIL fingerprints.

On topic - some early Serge modules ran on just +6v (used
LM3900s and MC3401s) and Simmons sometimes used 
+/-6v supplied to interface directly with 5v logic.
