Too slow. You're lucky to get more than 1MHz out of a laser.

The problem is these differ between different countries. And the open ones,
like the remote control bands, are susceptible to interference. (Possibly
adding a unique performance element as your synth responds to a model
aircraft flying around it. But I digress.)
Commercially I think you'd need certification to be legal. You could
operate illegally of course, but not if you plan to sell your hardware to
anyone.
You're also stuck with the complexity of creating secure and reliable
channel codings, and trying to work out how much bandwidth you need. A
wireless replacement for a 50MHz digital bus is going to need a *lot* of
radio bandwidth. And designing an RF system that works at - say - 2GHz - is
a huge effort.
I much prefer the optical mini-LAN idea.
