I think it depends on your target market. Buchlas, Serges and some of the 
Moog clones are *fantastically* expensive. When some people are charging 
$30,000 for a clone of a System 55, then money isn't an issue.

For the hobbyist/dabbler, then sure - an MOTM counts as high end, and 
anything with extreme features is going to price itself out of the market.

But there are film and TV composers who can spare $30,000 without thinking 
too hard about it. Not many mind, but there could enough to make a direct 
sell possible. These guys can get a million or more per film project, so 
it's really pocket money for them.

In fact this is one area where programmability has always been a huge 
issue. If you're on a tight deadline, a synth that has to be hand patched 
is a non-starter. It makes a great trophy for the studio wall, but you're 
unlikely to want to *use* it much.
