[sdiy] trig + gate ANDing?

hi,
is there a simple way to use logic to provide a combination of staccato and 
legato gates at a single sequencer gate output? let's say i'm using a 4017, 
and i AND the outputs with the clock to provide distinct gates for 
consecutive steps. i'd like to use a center-off spdt on each step to select 
between the ANDed staccato and the straight legato output of the 4017. any 
suggestions?
