I hadn't considered that.  In other words, the expander would be following
the level of the delayed signal rather than the input signal, which would
reduce the breathing?

Looking at the schematic, I see one thing I've never seen or noticed
before - the 78L06 has a diode going between the center tap and ground to
create a 7V source.

And, having two BBD's in there, it makes me wonder what would happen if one
took the same design and shortened the delay time, put an expo between on
the output of the LFO and the control inputs of the clocks, and added
regeneration loops to see what type of flanging response one would get.
Could be that there would be some through-zero type things happening there.
Or one could defeat the sweep of one of the BBD's and leave it with a small
delay to get that.  But, on the other hand, if it was that great or that
accomplishable, Boss probably would have done that already.....
