And an easy way to get 1000 ohms worth of copper wire ready-wound in a 
small package is to use a 1000 ohm reed relay coil - sometimes the 
glass-encapsulated reed assembly can be slid out of the solenoid. This 
could be done with some of the Radio Shack units.
