The SSM2044 is really about as "fixed" as a transistor-ladder. Infact, to some
degree it is a not that distant relative to the Moog transistor ladder.
The SSM2040 is the quad-OTA style filter just as CEM 3320 which is much more
"open" to different design-choices than the SSM 2044.
So, you need to be more innovative to do anything unorthdox with the SSM2044.
Basically are two different ways to get different responses, the feed forward
(inserting the input signal at the capacitors through resistors) or by
"sensing" the caps and do different output summings, possibly also including
the input signal. Inserting signal with resistors from a buffered signal is
the least costing. Depending on which side you insert signal is it positive or
negative insertion.
