I have heard some good things about some of the Alesis products.
Perhaps you can give us the inside scoop on design work, quality of
products, quality control, etc. as viewed from inside Alesis. To be
honest, I've never tried using the 3630 yet and can't comment on its
performance from a personal perspective, since the one that I
obtained, very inexpensively, had a broken wall transformer (after a
procedure involving a hacksaw, I got the case open and see that one
solder connection might do the trick after adding a power cord to it).
Do you know if lots of corners were cut with a "so what" attitude when
it was designed, or was it an honest attempt at producing a good
compressor for certain non-studio applications at a low cost, which
just happened to have a few flaws that were magnified by some because
of its low cost?
At the present time, I'm torn between trying to accentuate/magnify its
reported flaws to use them in some way for special effects or to go
ahead with the planned modifications to make it more useful as a
compressor.
