Thanks much to all who responded about my confusion regarding
interfacing my DR110. Especially to Dave Magnuson for showing to me
these great NPN transistor tricks! I think my problems in trying the
4016 before was that I was using more voltage and signal levels than I
could manage. The 2N3904 transistors on either the pushbutton contacts
or directly on the ribbon interface work just fine. I was using a 5v
trigger for my tests, so I have yet to install the protection diodes,
but I understand how to implement them now.

I knew I recognized Dave's name! I was wanting to try some of the DR110
mods on his web pages! Some of these sound really amazing, especially
the noise filter and decay mods for the cymbals and hats. The kick drum
mod is ok... I had only a 10k pot to try, rather than 1k- 10k was way
too coarse. At some accent levels the kick did assume a kewl throbbing
quality, but not quite what I am looking for now. I am going to play
with the kick components a bit more. I have been trying various
resistor values for Dave's proposed mods.

Tricky thing is that I was hoping to install the DR110 in a TR707 case,
with the 707 envelope transistors triggering the 110 sounds. This
certainly can be done- but now there are too many mods I want to
include for both of these machines, I cannot fit them together and
include all of the mods. Now I am installing the DR110 inside a small
2U rack case that's been waiting just such an application. I am
building a small board with EGs, LFO, and likely a few other useful
things which I am trying to decide upon. Sounding extremely fun!
