[sdiy] Wikipedia as synth resource

I just posted the following on Analogue Heaven. For SDIY, I would like to
add that the Synth DIY content of the Wiki is particularly lacking.

I have been meaning to bring up the subject of the Wikipedia (or Wiki, for
short). It is "an open-content encyclopedia" that anybody can edit. Yes,
that's right -- every page has an "Edit this Page" button, and you don't
even have to log in. (But you should create and account and log in when
doing major edits, etc. Please read the guidelines before jumping in too
heavily.)

A great deal of synthesizer content has already been added, including pages
dedicated to modular synths, specific makes and models, and more. In other
words, an excellent foundation has been laid, upon which we can all build.
Rather than answering the same newbie * questions every month, or telling
people to search the archives, we could direct people to Wiki pages -- if
those pages had the right info.

Ah, the right info, there's the rub! See, some of the pages are what they
call "stubs." The VCO page is an example of a stub, as it needs a lot of
work. (In fact, it barely applies to synths in its current -- no pun
intended -- form.) I can envision where this page might one day define the
common sawtooth and triangle core VCOs, have a link to DCOs, etc.

So, keep an eye out for threads (strings of posts on the same topic) that
can be consolidated and turned into Wiki content. You get the idea.

* That's not meant as a slam on newbies, as they can't help but have the
same old questions.

P.S. Anyone know who The Anome is?
