[sdiy] Roland JX-8P upgrades?

I posted a similar message to Analogue Heaven, but I haven't received
any replies so I thought I'd try here....

I have a Roland JX-8P and it has a few problems:

1. I hadn't touched it in a while, and the keyboard was quite flaky.
I looked through the Analogue Heaven archives and came to the
conclusion that Caig DeOxit was one of the preferred chemicals, but
alcohol would also work. Since I don't have any DeOxit around, I
went with alcohol. The contacts all seemed to have a little black
oxidation on them. I couldn't completely get rid of it, but running
a q-tip with alcohol over them made a world of difference. Any other
opinions?

2. The outputs are always noisy (forget turning on the chorus - it
might as well be labeled "white noise"). I don't think it is
anything particularly unusual for JX-8P's, but it bugs me and makes
me want to sell it. Are there any obvious mods that would lower the
noise floor? When I had it open to clean the key contacts, I noticed
a lot of nasty looking older caps, but I'm not quite sure where to
start, or if this would even fix much. I assume there are some
crappy op amps as well, but I would need a schematic and a little
more guidance to tackle this problem. Help?

3. The envelopes aren't very snappy. Is there any way to mod this?
I assume this would be a much more difficult mod.

4. Like many other JX-8P's, this one's aftertouch is basically shot.
I found this procedure:
http://analog.no/mods/roland_jx8P_aftertouch_repair.htm
Is this really the best way, or is it still possible to buy
replacement aftertouch sensors?
