hello everyone,
well, the majority of the keys of my yamaha ds-55 synth are broken inside,
and it'll cost too much to replace them. the ds-55 is a 4 op fm synth, sort
of a budget keyboard version, and includes an auto performance mode, a
delay, and, rare for an fm synth, has a 'traditional' interface instead of
the real fm editing done on dx synths.
i've removed the keyboard, and it'll work fine for now as a midi module. of
course, i can cut part of the plastic off, and leave it in its plastic box.
the pcb and interface with knobs and display are about half the keyboard
size.
but'' i can also do something else with it. i don't know how easy it is to
get into its engine, but i assume it receives midi sysex for its parameters.
i could build it into a new housing with knobs transmitting sysex, making it
the first yamaha fm synth with an analogue interface..;-)
any ideas are welcome.. i know nothing about the inside of the dx series, i
assume it's all digital so not much can be patched out or modified. it's a
cool box for gritty basses, and some form of more immediate control would be
nice if i'm going to change it anyway... any info, guru's or web resources
are welcome..
thanks!
ruud
